Four reasons why you should watch Supergirl

If you’re a superhero fanatic, or just a big TV show follower, you have probably heard about a new show called Supergirl. If not, we have listed four important reasons why you should watch the new show. The show is set to premiere on Monday October 26 on CBS in the US and Canada. It will air in the UK on October 29.

4. The cast

Supergirl has a strong cast that you will fall in love with during the pilot episode. The lead character, Kara, is played by former Glee star Melissa Benoist. Benoist is perfect as the leading lady of this show and her joyful personality is just as infectious on-screen as it is off-screen. The talented cast also include Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood and Jeremy Jordan.

3. The plot

The show is about 24-year-old Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) who escaped planet Krypton at age 13. She was then taken in by the Danvers family, and therefore also forced to conceal her powers from the rest of the world. Now, Kara lives in National City where she works for media mogul Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart). In a near-disaster she has to reveal her superpowers in order to save everyone. After that, Kara is excited to finally use her powers in order to fight crime and becoming the heroine she was always destined to be.

2.  The universe

If you are a big fan of comic books, and the DC Universe in general, you will for sure love this show. If you also enjoy watching two of the other superhero shows Arrow and The Flash you will probably also find this entertaining. One of Supergirl’s executive producers, Greg Berlanti, who also produces the two other shows, have previously expressed interest in doing crossover episodes between Supergirl and the Arrowverse. However, it may be a bit unlikely at the moment since the shows are on different networks.

1. Female empowerment

There haven’t been many television shows with female comic book heroes as the main character. In fact, Supergirl is the first show in 13 years to feature one. 13 years ago there was a very short-lived show called Birds of Prey, and before that there was Wonder Woman in 1975 – forty years ago! So it’s safe to say that having a comic book heroine as the lead of a TV show is pretty remarkable. Melissa Benoist’s character is just what the world needs right now; a strong, joyful and just a tad awkward and insecure young lady who empowers and inspires all women. What more could we ask for?
